Lower temp thermostats were popular in the 1950's with racers, this became popular because on a carburetor engine with fixed fuel flow, running the engine cooler offered a leaner air-fuel mixture and added power. It was a cheap small power mod. On a Fuel injected motor it is the opposite, a fuel injected engine runs off the sensor readings. The ECU runs richer below 176 degree's because it stays in the warm up maps that are richer. Running a Z engine below 176 degree's will hurt power because the engine management is designed for the engine to run above 180 degrees. Engine oil takes longer to warm up than coolant, optimum engine oil temps are between 180 and 210 degree's. Engine oil needs to run 180 degree's or higher in able to burn off fuel and water. If you do not burn off the fuel and water, the oil will degrade quickly and loose lubricating properties. Running a cooler thermostat will only cause the engine to take longer to warm up and run too cool in moderate and cool weather, it will not allow a engine to run cooler in hot weather and will not help any heating issues. If anything a cooler thermostat will cause the engine to run hotter in hot weather because the coolant constantly circulates and spends less time in the radiator where the heat can be removed. Heating issues are mostly caused from the radiator not pulling enough heat out of the cooling system and that is most commonly due to lack of air flow through the radiator on Z cars. Your front mount intercooler is not helping, but the bigger multi-core radiators are also harder to get air through. Your profile shows an electric fan and those do not pull anywhere near the amount of air of a stock fan and fan clutch. Most aftermarket electric fans only pull 1000 to 2500 CFM. Even 3000 CFM is not enough volume of air to cool these engines properly with A/C, even without blocking the air with a front mount intercooler. The only fan I know of that is reasonable for a TTZ is the factory FORD TAURUS fan, it pulls 4500CFM. The NISSAN OEM fan and fan clutch is still the best choice, it pulls over 10,000 CFM when fully kicked in, and only pulls that much when needed as it is controlled by a thermocouple.
